Parent Chaperones

All KSD volunteers are required to complete the process to become an Approved Volunteer. This includes volunteer coaches, tutors, parents/guardians who are chaperoning a field trip, etc.

Per Missouri State Law, in conjunction with KSD Board of Education Policy, school volunteers are required to complete fingerprint background checks and registration with the Family Care Safety Registry. This ensures the safety of our students, volunteers, and staff members.

The Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) is a lifetime registration. If they state that you are already registered, you do not need to take further action on that step of the process. We will be able to look up your clearance letter via the information you provided on your Volunteer Application. If we need to follow up with you about your registration, we will reach out to let you know.

If you have recently completed your volunteer application and background checks, you will receive a confirmation email once everything is complete.

Please reach out to your school's main office to verify your volunteer status.

Once you have submitted your volunteer application, you will receive an auto-generated email to the email address you provided with the complete instructions for next steps.

With recent changes to the Missouri Statutes that govern background checks for public school volunteers, you no longer need to renew fingerprint background checks every five years. However, depending on when your last set of fingerprints was done, you may need to have them done one more time to ensure that you are fully enrolled in the RapBack system.

The RapBack system is utilized to alert the school district to any criminal changes on a background check that could have an important bearing on the approved status of a volunteer. If you have been fingerprinted most recently in 2024, you should be set to volunteer in perpetuity. If you were last fingerprinted prior to 2024, you may need to be re-fingerprinted. Enrollment in the Family Care Safety Registry is a lifetime registration. If you are already registered, there is no need to complete that step again.
